Technical details

How this works

  1. This page asks abbott.cloud/api/edge for the address your request came from. Cloudflare, which runs this site, adds it to every request as the CF-Connecting-IP header, so it can't be faked by the browser.
  2. The site sends that address straight back to you. Nothing else is looked up and no other service is contacted.

What's kept: nothing. The address isn't logged or stored.

Good to know:

  • This is your public address: the one websites see. Everyone on the same office or home network usually shares it, and it isn't the address of your computer on that network.
  • A device with both IPv4 and IPv6 connects with one of them, usually IPv6, so only that one is shown. If someone needs your IPv4 address and this shows IPv6, try from a network or browser without IPv6.
  • A VPN or proxy changes the address shown to the VPN's or proxy's.
